A farm owned by Jamaat-e-Islami activist in Moulvibazar was gutted by fire on Tuesday night after arson by miscreants.
The blaze killed 50 cows, 10 sheep and more than 200 chickens causing an estimated loss of Tk60–70 lakh. The farm, owned by Jamaat activist Usman Goni.
The incident occurred around 9pm in Buddhimontopur village of Ward 3, Kanakpur Union, Sadar Upazila.
Local sources said the farm is located in the middle of a haor, away from the main village, which prevented timely control of the fire.
The attackers reportedly used petrol and straw to ignite the blaze. The fire quickly engulfed the entire farm, killing all livestock and poultry.
Neighbours rushed to the scene to control the flames, but the farm was completely destroyed before help could arrive. The fire service was informed, but the blaze had already burnt out by their arrival.
Usman Goni told reporters, “I have lost everything. My farm was the sole source of livelihood for my family. This was a deliberate attack.”
The incident has created widespread fear and outrage in the area. Locals have demanded a thorough investigation and swift arrest of the culprits.
Moulvibazar Sadar police have visited the scene and launched an investigation.
