Actor and singer Fazlur Rahman Babu’s ancestral home in Faridpur was burgled, with thieves allegedly stealing the main electrical connection wires, AC cables and other items kept outside the property.
The actor filed a general diary (GD) with Faridpur Kotwali Police Station on Tuesday afternoon over the incident.
Babu said that although he lives in Dhaka for professional reasons, he regularly visits his ancestral home, known as ‘Kamranga’, in West Alipur, Faridpur.
He had stayed there for two days around 20–25 days ago before returning to Dhaka.
When he returned to the house on Monday night and tried to switch on the lights, he found that none of them was working.
Upon checking outside, he discovered that thieves had cut and taken away the main electrical wires.
The thieves also allegedly removed the copper wires from two split AC units on the roof, along with several other items kept outside the house.
As the property remained without electricity for an extended period, food stored in the refrigerator and other items were also damaged.
“It’s not just my house. AC units, electrical wires and garage equipment are regularly being stolen from almost every house in the area. West Alipur was once a very peaceful and secure neighbourhood, but theft has increased significantly,” Babu said.
He added that locals believe many of those involved in the thefts are drug users who steal such items to fund their drug use.
Expressing concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the area, the actor urged authorities to take effective measures to curb the thefts.
Faridpur Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Mahamudul Hasan confirmed that Babu had filed a GD over the theft of electrical wires.
“Police have begun working to identify those involved in the theft and bring them under the law,” he said.
