A 60-year-old man lost his life on Tuesday after his motorcycle crashed on Hanif Flyover in the capital’s Jatrabari area.
The deceased was identified as Abul Kashem.
The accident occurred at approximately 5:45pm. Pedestrians rescued the critically injured man and rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where duty doctors declared him dead.
A pedestrian, Sadia Islam, who assisted in the rescue, said seeing Kashem lying on the flyover with severe injuries to his head and face. Local witnesses informed her that the motorcycle was travelling at high speed when it lost control and struck the road divider with great force.
The victim’s granddaughter, Surma Akter, said Kashem hailed from Bhedarganj Upazila in Shariatpur and resided in Shewrapara, Dhaka. He was returning to the capital from his village home after visiting his elderly mother.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of DMCH police camp, confirmed the death. He said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.
