BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for tough action against miscreants.
He made the demand on Thursday afternoon in a statement condemning the killing of Azizur Rahman Musabbir, former general secretary of Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Swechhasebak Dal.
Mirza Fakhrul said miscreants have resumed destructive activities to create instability and exploit the situation for their own benefit after the fall of the ‘Awami authoritarian rulers’ following student-public protests.
He described the killing of the Swechchhasebak Dal leader as a brutal manifestation of such schemes.
He alleged that the repeated incidents aim to put the interim government in difficulty, and argued that there is no alternative but to suppress such miscreants with a firm hand.
He also stressed the need for unity across political and professional lines to safeguard democracy and the people’s right to vote, as well as to protect lives and property.
Without such unity, he warned that the associates of ‘fascists Awami League’ would re-emerge and threaten the existence of the country.
In the statement, the BNP Secretary General demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those responsible for the killing of Azizur Rahman Musabbir.
He prayed for the departed soul and expressed deep sympathy for the bereaved family.
