A mobile court arrested a fake doctor and his associate for impersonating a medical professional and providing treatment over a long time in Zianagar, Pirojpur.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Hasan Md Hafizur Rahman confirmed the matter. The raid was conducted on Tuesday in a house near the Government Indurkani College.
The fake doctor has been identified as MA Akbar, 37. His associate, Ratan Kumar Shil, 40, was also detained at the time.
UNO Hasan said Akbar had been providing treatment for various complex diseases including tumours, cancer, infertility, heart disease, heart blocks, kidney and gallstones under the name “Dhaka Homeo Clinic”.
Akbar was using a device called a Quantum Resonance Magnetic Analyser to provide fake diagnostic reports and extort extra money from patients.
UNO Hasan added that people were being deceived with unauthorised homeopathic medicines. Moreover, the allegations against Ratan, regarding extorting money by promising to take people abroad through Green Cards, have also been proven.
Following their confession in the presence of witnesses, the mobile court sentenced Akbar to 30 days of simple imprisonment and a fine of Tk50,000. Ratan was sentenced to 90 days of simple imprisonment.
