A Dhaka court has shown former Bagerhat-4 lawmaker Amirul Islam Milon arrested in a case filed over the killing of BNP activist Mokbul Hossain in Paltan.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam passed the order on Monday after hearing the matter in Amirul Islam’s presence.
The court also ordered that he be sent to jail.
Amirul Islam, who was already in custody in another case, was produced before the court as police sought to show him arrested in the Mokbul murder case.
Following the hearing, the court granted the request.
The former lawmaker was arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB) from the capital’s Indira Road area on 6 May, 2025.
He was later sent to jail in a case filed with Paltan Model Police Station and has remained in custody since then.
On 18 August DB Sub-Inspector Md Tofazzal Hossain, the investigating officer in the case, filed a petition seeking to show Milon arrested in the murder case.
The court subsequently fixed 24 August for hearing the petition in his presence.
According to the case statement, the BNP had announced a programme on 10 December 2022, as part of its one-point demand.
On 7 December, then Detective Branch officials led by Harun-or-Rashid, Mehedi Hasan and Biplob Kumar allegedly raided the BNP’s Nayapaltan office.
The complaint alleges that the office was vandalised during the operation and that thousands of BNP leaders and activists gathered around the area were attacked.
Mokbul Hossain, a BNP activist, was allegedly shot and killed during the incident.
Mahfuzur Rahman filed a case on 30 September, naming former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 255 others over the incident.
