Ershad Ullah, convener of Chattogram city unit of BNP and the party’s nominated candidate for the Chattogram-8 (Boalkhali, Chandgaon, Bayezid) constituency, who was injured in an attack by miscreants, is now out of danger. His son Imad Ershad confirmed the matter to the media around 9:45 pm on Wednesday.

Imad said, “Alhamdulillah, my father’s surgery has been completed successfully. The bullet that was lodged in his body has been removed. He is now under intensive observation. By the grace of Allah and everyone’s prayers, my father is in good health. He has sought prayers from all party leaders, activists, and well-wishers.”

Addressing the party activists, Imad added, “Please keep praying from wherever you are. There are other patients around my father, so everyone should stay at home and continue praying—for my father to return even stronger.”

Eyewitnesses said that during the campaign after sunset, a group of masked assailants on motorcycles suddenly opened fire. A bullet hit Ershad Ullah in his right thigh. Local party members quickly took him to Evercare Hospital in Chattogram. Doctors said his condition is currently stable.

The attack caused shock across the city. BNP leaders strongly condemned it, describing it as a “blatant manifestation of electoral terrorism.” They said the attack was carried out to create fear and panic in the election field.

Meanwhile, police said they have not yet identified who carried out the attack. The Officer-in-Charge of Bayezid Police Station said, “Police were dispatched to the scene immediately after the incident. The situation is now under control. Investigation is ongoing.”
