Electrical equipment imported from Russia for the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant has been destroyed in the recent fire. The unloading responsibility had been assigned to a clearing and forwarding (C&F) agency named Momota Trading Company.
Biplob Hossain, a customs officer of the company, said that around 18 tonnes of electrical equipment arrived in Bangladesh six days ago through seven separate shipments from Russia.
“The Atomic Energy Commission’s No Objection Certificate (NOC) was required before unloading the goods,” he said. “Due to delays in obtaining the approval, the unloading could not take place until Thursday. The clearance was scheduled for Sunday, but before that the entire consignment was engulfed in flames.”
