Newly released records connected to late convicted sex offender and financier Jeffrey Epstein have placed billionaire Elon Musk and Britain’s Prince Andrew among those mentioned, according to files disclosed by Democrats on the House Oversight Committee.
The documents, which were handed over by the Jeffrey Epstein Estate, indicate that Musk was invited to visit Epstein’s private island in December 2014.
One note from 6 December reads: “Reminder: Elon Musk to island Dec. 6 (is this still happening?).” Musk has previously said he declined the invitation, reports the BBC.
Separately, a passenger list from 12 May 2000 shows Prince Andrew on a flight with Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell from Teterboro, New Jersey, to West Palm Beach, Florida. Maxwell was later convicted in 2021 for conspiring with Epstein to traffic underage girls. Buckingham Palace’s website recorded Andrew being in New York on 11 May for a charity event before returning to the UK on 15 May. The prince has consistently and firmly denied wrongdoing.
These records form the third instalment of files provided by Epstein’s estate, which include daily schedules, phone messages, flight logs, and financial accounts.
Among them are references to meetings with high-profile figures: a planned lunch with internet entrepreneur Peter Thiel in November 2017, a breakfast with Steve Bannon, a former advisor to US President Donald Trump, on 17 February 2019.
It also included tentative arrangements for a December 2014 breakfast with Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft. Gates has since described meeting Epstein as a “mistake.”
Committee spokesperson Sara Guerrero said, “It should be clear to every American that Jeffrey Epstein was friends with some of the most powerful and wealthiest men in the world. Every new document produced provides new information as we work to bring justice for the survivors and victims.”
Guerrero also urged US Attorney Pam Bondi to release more of the Epstein files.
Republicans on the panel criticised Democrats for “putting politics over victims” and promised to make the full set of records public.
Epstein died by suicide in a New York jail in August 2019 while facing sex trafficking charges. His earlier 2008 plea deal followed accusations that he had molested a 14-year-old girl at his Florida residence.
