The government has requested all media outlets, including print, electronic, online news portals, and social media platforms, to comply with court directives prohibiting the broadcast of statements by the ousted and fugitive Sheikh Hasina.
According to a statement made by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued on Friday, the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) had previously imposed a ban on broadcasting the statements of Sheikh Hasina on 5 December 2024.
The directive noted that under existing Bangladeshi law, there is a legal prohibition against broadcasting any kind of statement, interview, or audio-video speech by a convicted fugitive in the media.
To maintain law and order in the country, the government has specifically requested that no speech, statement, or remark by the fugitive Sheikh Hasina- whether live or recorded- be broadcast or published across any media platform, including television, radio, newspapers, news portals, or social media.
This request has been made in the interest of maintaining law and order and in honour of the court’s instructions.
The government expressed its expectation that all media organisations, relevant stakeholders, and citizens will demonstrate proper respect for the prevailing laws and court orders, providing their full cooperation in their implementation.
