Escaping the monotony of urban life, thousands of holidaymakers have gathered at nature parks and entertainment centers across Chattogram celebrate Eid-ul-Adha.
Following the completion of the Qurbani rituals, a massive surge of travelers—not just local residents but tourists from all corners of the country has breathed new life into the region’s mountains, lakes, and coastal areas.
In the heart of Chattogram city, Foys Lake Amusement Park and Sea World have witnessed a spectacular influx of visitors. Tourism started peaking on Friday morning (May 29) as families trickled in after finishing their initial Eid commitments.
According to Biswajit Ghosh, Marketing Manager of Concord Entertainment Company Limited, the park has introduced a wave of fresh attractions alongside family favorites like the Roller Coaster, Ferris Wheel, and Pirate Ship. New rides include: tornado 360, airborne shot, flying bus, sky hooper. We are expecting more than 5,000 tourists daily throughout the Eid holidays,” Ghosh stated.
Nearby, the Chattogram Zoo remains the ultimate destination for children. Dr. Shahadat Hossain Shuvo, Deputy Curator of the zoo, shared their upbeat projections, we expect around 60,000 visitors over these 5 days, averaging nearly 12,000 people daily. While monsoon rains might cause a slight dip, we have deployed 24 additional staff members alongside regular crew to maintain cleanliness and ensure maximum service.”
Lakeside Serenity at Mahamaya Ecopark
Outside the main city, the country’s second-largest lake—Mahamaya Ecopark in Mirsarai—is drawing nature lovers with its stunning combination of mountain waterfalls and crystal-clear waters.
Taslim Uddin Touhid, Manager of the park’s leasing company, noted that about 500 tourists arrived as early as Thursday afternoon. “With Friday merging into the Eid holidays, we are easily hitting our target of over 1,000 visitors a day,” he said.
To keep up with the demand, the park has fully mobilized its aquatic fleet: 64 Kayaking Boats (highly popular among youths), 50 to 55 Engine-powered Boats, 12 to 14 Pinnacle Boats (steered by traditional fishermen).
“I live in Chittagong city but came to the village for Eid,” said Mahmudul Hasan, a visiting tourist.
“Even though the weather is quite hot, paddling through the hills and water with my family feels absolutely amazing.”
The tourist wave has effectively blanketed all 15 upazilas of the district. Coastal spots like Patenga Sea Beach, Parki Beach, the shoreline near the Mirsarai Economic Zone, and the unique semi-alternative landscape of Guliyakhali Beach in Sitakunda are packed to the brim. Other inland spots like DC Park and Arshinagar Future Park are also seeing peak traffic.
To accommodate this massive influx and ensure a hassle-free experience, the Bangladesh Tourist Police have scaled up security protocols, deploying extensive monitoring teams across Patenga and surrounding high-traffic zones.
While the official Eid-ul-Azha break kicked off on May 25, the real travel boom started on Friday, May 29. Local operators predict this festive rush will keep the parks vibrant until next Friday.
