The Election Commission (EC) has announced the election date for women’s reserved seats in the 13th parliament.

The polls will be held on 12 May, EC Senior Secretary Akhter Ahmed told reporters after a meeting on Monday.

Details of the schedule for the reserved seats will be declared on 8 April, he added.

According to seat‑wise results of the 13th parliament, the BNP‑led alliance will secure 36 reserved seats, the Jamaat‑e‑Islami‑led alliance 13 seats, and independent candidates one seat.

Earlier, the EC sent letters to political parties and independent members of parliament asking whether they would contest jointly or separately. Parties have already submitted their decisions.

As per the Reserved Women Seats Election Act, 2004, the allocation of reserved seats is determined proportionally based on the number of general seats won by the political parties in parliament.
