An earthquake was felt in Sylhet and surrounding areas of the country early Monday.
The tremor lasted for a few seconds at 4:47am. The magnitude of this earthquake on the Richter scale was 5.2, says United States Geological Survey (USGS).
Epicenter of the earthquake was about 13 kilometres deep near Dhing in Assam, India. The centre was located just three kilometres west of Dhing town in Assam and 76 kilometres northeast of the capital Guwahati.
Residents of Sylhet city’s Zindabazar, Upashahar, Amberkhana, Tilaghar, Shah Paran police station area, as well as South Surma, Jaintapur, and Companiganj upazilas, reported that they felt the tremor. Immediately after, many people posted about it on social media, particularly Facebook.
No reports of damage or casualties were received right away.
Earlier, on 10 December last year, Sylhet experienced two earthquakes within just five minutes around midnight.
