An Annual Paper Meet was held at Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) in Gazipur on Thursday, 18 June 2026, showcasing research results, innovations and future prospects of faculty-led projects under the 2025–2026 fiscal year, said in a press release. The event, organised at the Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Academic Building, brought together senior university officials, faculty members and researchers to present ongoing academic work and explore its potential industrial and societal applications.

DUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Engineer Mohammad Iqbal attended the programme as chief guest, where he outlined the importance of strengthening research capacity through increased publications, patents and industry collaboration. The event focused on the performance and outcomes of research projects funded for faculty members, with presentations covering objectives, methodologies, key findings and potential applications across disciplines. The discussions also highlighted the role of interdisciplinary cooperation and the need to translate academic research into practical solutions for industry and society.

The Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Engineer Mohammad Iqbal said that research-based knowledge creation and the development of technology-driven solutions could make meaningful contributions to industry, the economy and society. He stressed that enhancing the number of research publications and patents, along with stronger collaboration with industry, was essential to raising DUET’s research standards to an international level.

He also emphasised the need to further strengthen the university’s research environment and foster a culture of innovation, noting that such efforts would play a significant role in advancing DUET’s academic and research profile. He urged the University Grants Commission (UGC) to increase financial allocations for research activities, arguing that greater investment would support improved institutional rankings and higher research output. He also thanked the Directorate of Research and Extension for organising the Annual Paper Meet.

Professor Dr Engineer Mohammad Iqbal further expressed optimism that initiatives of this kind would contribute to enriching the research environment at DUET and encourage greater innovation among faculty and researchers. He said sustained engagement in research dissemination and evaluation would help strengthen the university’s long-term academic goals.

Special guest Professor Dr Md Arefin Kawsar praised the creativity and innovative thinking demonstrated by researchers participating in the programme. He said that research outcomes should not remain confined to academic publications but should be applicable in industrial settings and real-life contexts, ensuring broader societal benefit.

The session was chaired by Professor Dr Md Anwarul Abedin, Director (Research and Extension), while Additional Director Professor Dr Shahjalal Khandaker delivered the welcome address, outlining the objectives of the event and the importance of showcasing research progress regularly.

Project directors from various departments and institutes presented detailed accounts of their research work, including objectives, methodologies, findings and expected applications. Each presentation was followed by question-and-answer sessions and open discussions, during which participants shared feedback and suggestions, particularly on strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration and improving the practical implementation of research outcomes.

The programme concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony for project directors. Senior university officials including deans of faculties, heads of departments, institute directors, office heads, project directors, co-directors and faculty members were present at the event, reflecting broad institutional participation in the university’s research agenda.
