The Dhaka University (DU) has formed two separate committees to inspire students with moral and human values. The committees have been formed following a decision taken at a DU syndicate meeting.
In the light of the growing moral and humanitarian challenges in society, the DU has also introduced a new course titled “Ethics and Human Values Education” to encourage students to uphold ethical and humanistic principles, according to a press release issued on Sunday.
The first joint meeting of the two committees was held on Sunday at the office of DU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education), Professor Dr Mamun Ahmed, who also serves as the convener of the committees.
Committee members present at the meeting included Professor Md Nuruzzaman, chairperson of the Department of Philosophy, Professor AKM Yunus, director of the Center for Moral Development; Professor Dr Shah Kawser Mustafa Abul Ulai from the Department of Philosophy, Professor Dr Mohammad Ali Jinnah from the Institute of Education and Research, Professor Dr Shakila Yasmin from the Institute of Business Administration, Associate Professor Dr Khorshed Alam from the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, and Lecturer Mir Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun Ali from the Department of Graphic Design.
The administration stated that the meeting discussed the feasibility of introducing the “Ethics and Human Values Education” course for first-year undergraduate students of all departments and institutes from the 2025–2026 academic session.
Additionally, from the same academic year, a two-day workshop on “Ethics and Human Values Education” will be organised for master’s level students across all departments and institutes as part of a broader plan to foster ethical awareness and moral responsibility among students.
