It would be interesting to see how these elections unfold, particularly with the level of involvement and the potential for leadership that could emerge from such a vibrant participation. Looking back at the history, our students have been at the forefront of every major movement, embodying the spirit of resilience and determination. From the Language Movement to the Liberation War, and even in more recent times, they have always been the torchbearers of change, standing up for justice, freedom, and the rights of the people. Their dedication, sacrifice, and sense of responsibility have set them apart as role models for generations.
Students have not just participated but have led these movements, reflecting the collective voice and aspirations of the people. They have been the lifeblood of our country’s progress, and their legacy continues to inspire future leaders to strive for a better Bangladesh. This proud history is a reminder of the immense power and potential within our youth to shape the future.
Yet, there is no denying the fact that student politics has struggled and, at times, limped along. In many cases, it seemed to have lost its way. Major political parties have more or less used student fronts as tools to further their own agendas. In doing so, student politics became entangled in power plays, causing its original essence to fade. These student fronts were empowered to assert dominance on the ground, often silencing opposing parties. Over time, student politics lost its sanctity, becoming tainted by the dirt of politics. As a result, its once-glorious reputation gradually diminished and, on several occasions, even became a burden.
However, the movement of last July, which was ignited and led by the students, has once again sparked hope in the hearts and minds of the nation. Once again, they rose to the occasion, demonstrating their true spirit and making the impossible possible. Students, our future generation, stood strong, raised their voices, and acted with bravery, much like the knights of the nation. They emerged as the saviors of the country. The nation and its people owe you for this bold and dignified achievement.
With this aspiration, the country is looking forward to you. Looking at Dhaka University, the breeding ground of history. All eyes are on the upcoming DU elections. Whether you are participating under a political banner or individually, or actively working, remember that everyone is watching you closely, filled with hope and aspirations. Our expectations are clear: The election must be clean, free from any undue influence, and fair. Everyone must adhere to the instructions of the Election Commission. It should carry a festive spirit and set a precedent for the future.
