Meghmallar Bosu, president of a faction of the Dhaka University unit of Bangladesh Chhatra Union, has been admitted to hospital in critical condition.
He was taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital on Friday afternoon, said Main Ahmed, general secretary of the faction’s DU committee.
Speaking to reporters, Main Ahmed said Meghmallar is currently undergoing treatment and that his condition is improving.
Asked about the cause of his illness, he said Meghmallar had been unwell since the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) election held in September last year.
“We found him after he had taken multiple medications. Further details will be known once he recovers,” he said.
In the last year’s Ducsu election, Meghmallar contested the post of General Secretary (GS), securing 4,949 votes. He was defeated by SM Farhad of a Shibir-backed panel, who won the post with 10,794 votes.
