Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md Shofiqul Islam Khan on Tuesday inspected the progress of a housing project for cleaners and the construction of a bypass road intended to alleviate traffic congestion at the Gabtoli bus terminal.
During his visit to the housing site, the administrator expressed satisfaction with the project’s development. The scheme comprises four 15-storey buildings containing a total of 784 flats. Each floor will accommodate 16 units, with each individual flat measuring 560 square feet.
To ensure the safety and well-being of residents, the buildings are equipped with comprehensive fire safety measures, including fire exits and prevention systems, alongside six lifts per building. The residential complex is designed to be a self-contained community, featuring a school for children, green spaces, a mosque, and an improved internal road network.
“The construction of the buildings is in its final stages, with only minor works remaining,” the administrator stated. He expressed hope that the keys to these flats would be handed over to the cleaning staff by late July or early August.
Following the housing inspection, the Administrator reviewed the progress of a new bypass road being constructed to mitigate the chronic traffic jams at the Gabtoli bus terminal. He emphasised that as part of the traffic management strategy, inter-district buses will no longer be permitted to enter the city.
Furthermore, the authorities are currently evicting unauthorised ticket counters operating within the city limits.
Addressing concerns regarding the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha, the Administrator responded to queries about the leasing of cattle markets. He assured that the locations for these markets have been selected with a focus on public convenience and ensuring that the journey for holidaymakers remains undisrupted.
He confirmed that formal tender notices have been published and the leases will be awarded to the highest bidders.
The administrator was accompanied during the inspection by several high-ranking officials, including DNCC Chief Waste Management Officer Commodore Mohammad Humayun Kabir, Chief Engineer Brigadier General Sayed Rakibul Hasan, and Additional Chief Engineer Khondoker Mahbub Alam.
