Special Metropolitan Magistrates of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) disposed of 5,205 criminal cases and 302 traffic-related cases through summary trials in April.
DMP Law Officer District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Ataul Haque said the cases were settled under the Motijheel, Tejgaon, Wari, Gulshan, Mirpur, Ramna, Lalbagh and Uttara divisions during the month.
A total of 10,155 accused were arrested in connection with the criminal cases, while 5,894 were sentenced to imprisonment.
Authorities realised Tk38.82 lakh in fines and recovered another Tk2.45 lakh through auction and confiscation.
To maintain law and order in the capital, Special Metropolitan Magistrates and DMP police jointly conducted 57 special drives in April, he said.
Meanwhile, police filed 1,470 cases under the Road Transport Act, 2018 over traffic rule violations during the month.
Of those, 302 cases were disposed of involving 1,216 accused. Authorities realised Tk4.49 lakh in fines, while two accused were sentenced to imprisonment.
