Former members of the 40th cadet sub-inspector batch, who were dismissed from service, staged a human chain and demonstration in front of the Police Headquarters on Monday morning, demanding their reinstatement. Approximately 100 out of the 321 dismissed personnel participated in the protest.
The demonstration began at 9am and continued until 2pm, with speeches delivered by protest leaders including Rabiul Islam, Rubel Chandra Das, and Nur Sadiq. During the protest, Additional Police Superintendent Nur-e-Alam, representing the Inspector General of Police (IGP), met with the demonstrators to hear their demands.
On October 21 of last year, 252 trainee sub-inspectors were dismissed a month before graduation for “breach of discipline” during a break in a practice session for the closing parade of the 40th BCS (Police) Probationers Batch.
Later, on November 4, 58 more were dismissed, with an addition 3 trainees dismissed on November 18.
A further 8 – who had completed their training of 365 days – were dismissed at the beginning of this year, on January 1.
The protesters submitted a memorandum calling for their reinstatement. Nur-e-Alam assured them that their concerns would be addressed within seven days, following which the demonstration was called off.
