Bangladeshi moviegoers are about to be part of a rare global event. On September 26, Hollywood’s Leonardo DiCaprio headlines ‘One Battle After Another’ and audiences here will see it the very same day it premieres worldwide.
For cinephiles used to waiting weeks, or months, for major Hollywood titles, this is a cinematic milestone.
The film, directed by Oscar-nominated auteur Paul Thomas Anderson, has been over two decades in the making. Adapted from Thomas Pynchon’s cult novel Vineland, it mixes political satire, dark comedy and high-stakes action.
At the heart of the story is a band of aging revolutionaries reuniting after 16 years to rescue a comrade’s daughter. The Guardian has already hailed the film as “a story of dissent, protest and the isolated hero, something rarely seen in today’s America.”
But for Bangladeshi fans, the bigger story is access. Star Cineplex has confirmed itself as the local distributor, ensuring that local audiences will not miss out on the global conversation.
The release underlines Bangladesh’s growing place on the international cinema map, where major studios are beginning to see the country as part of their premiere circuit rather than a distant afterthought.
Anderson, known for ‘There Will Be Blood’ (2007), brings his signature depth to this long-awaited project. DiCaprio, who reportedly earned $20 million for the role, has called the film “a mirror of society,” promising a blend of spectacle and subtext.
With tickets soon to open at Star Cineplex, the buzz is less about Hollywood glamour and more about belonging. For once, Dhaka audiences will watch DiCaprio’s latest epic as the rest of the world does, on day one.
