The government has launched a dedicated information service through the National Helpline 333 to assist citizens with verified election-related details ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election and the referendum.

This initiative is designed to offer reliable information and enable voters to report any irregularities or concerns related to the elections.

The Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology officially announced the service on Wednesday. Developed in collaboration with the Election Commission (EC), the initiative seeks to ensure that voters have access to reliable and timely information as the 12 February election draws near.

The service is designed to enhance the transparency, accessibility, and fairness of the electoral process.

To access the service, citizens are encouraged to dial 333 from any mobile operator and press 9.

This toll-free service offers guidance on voting rules, polling station locations, issues related to National Identity (NID) cards, the election code of conduct, and voting procedures for expatriates. Additionally, it provides information on special facilities for persons with disabilities, elderly voters, and women, as well as emergency contact numbers and instructions.

The helpline also offers detailed support for using the Smart Election Management BD and Postal Vote BD apps, which have been prescribed by the Election Commission.

Launched on a trial basis on 16 January, the service has already assisted 1,643 citizens with election-related queries, according to the Ministry’s release.

In addition to providing election information, authorities are considering using the helpline to monitor law and order by identifying potential unrest and forwarding the information to relevant authorities.

However, the service will not serve as a police control room. Instead, it will function as an ‘Information Intake, Early Warning, and Forwarding System’, where critical information can be shared with emergency services like 999 if needed.

The government expects that the 333 helpline will play a significant role in reducing confusion, curbing misinformation, and ensuring a smooth, transparent, and participatory electoral process.
