Mohammad Zahir Hussain, executive director of Bangladesh Bank and the sole representative of the Board of Directors of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC, said depositors are the true owners of the bank, assuring clients that the institution will be operated professionally to serve the public.
“As long as Bangladesh exists, Insha’Allah, Islami Bank will also survive with glory,” he said on Wedesday while addressing a clients’ get-together organised by the bank at its Islami Bank Tower Corporate Branch.
“It will not be a bank for any single individual, group or community; it will be a bank for the general people,” Zahir said.
Highlighting the bank’s financial structure, he said customer deposits stand at nearly Tk1.75 lakh crore, while share capital is Tk6,500 crore, making shareholders’ stake a small fraction compared with the total deposit base.
The sole board representative assured customers that full confidence and authority had been placed in the bank’s management team, which comprises professionals with 30 to 35 years of experience.
He said the board’s role was limited to policy formulation, while professionals were responsible for running the bank’s operations.
Zahir urged depositors to support the bank and help increase its deposits, expressing confidence that Islami Bank would regain its previous reputation and reach new heights in a short period.
The event was chaired by Executive Vice President and Head of the Corporate Branch Mohammad Kutub Uddin, while Senior Vice President Abdul Latif delivered the welcome address.
Acting Managing Director Md Altaf Hossain and Executive Vice President Mahmud Hossain Khan attended the event as special guests.
Several client representatives also spoke at the programme, according to a press release.
