A defamation case has been filed against Nasiruddin Patwari, chief coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP), for making derogatory remarks about Rabiul Islam Noyon, member secretary of Dhaka south unit of Jubo Dal.
Jubo Dal leader Kazi Mukituzzaman filed the case on Monday with the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Zakir Hossain in Dhaka.
The court has directed the Detective Branch (DB) police to investigate the case and submit a report.
Plaintiff’s lawyer Md Mehedi Hasan Jewel said that Patwari has repeatedly made comments about senior BNP leaders. “We believe it’s time to put a stop to this, which is why we’ve filed a defamation case against him (Patwary),” he said.
According to the complaint, following the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024, Patwari deliberately engaged in spreading false, fabricated, misleading, and defamatory information through social media, aiming to tarnish the reputation and socially discredit the BNP and its leadership.
He also damaged the public image of the BNP and committed defamation, the complaint alleged.
