Actress Deepa Khandakar has shared a humorous take on the growing expectation to promote products received as gifts on social media.
On Sunday (24 August), Deepa said she was happy after receiving a sari as a gift from a friend.
However, the joy did not last long as she was later asked to take photos wearing it, post them on social media and tag the friend’s page.
Sharing the experience on social media, Deepa joked, “I’m scared that one day Amma will send bhorta and tell me to tag her and post it, otherwise she’ll file a case against me.”
She also jokingly mentioned actress Tanjin Tisha, asking her to come to her rescue if such a situation arises.
Deepa’s post appeared to reference the recent controversy surrounding Tanjin Tisha and a sari.
In 2025, an entrepreneur alleged that Tisha had received a Jamdani sari for promotional purposes but failed to fulfil the agreed terms.
Tisha, however, maintained that the sari had been given to her as a gift.
The dispute later developed into a legal matter, making the incident a talking point on social media.
Taking a broader jab at the trend, Deepa wrote, “Even after buying things with our own money, people expect us to give reviews. Have we forgotten what relationships and work actually mean?”
Her light-hearted post has since drawn attention for its apparent reference to the controversy while also questioning the boundaries between personal relationships, gifts and promotional expectations.
