Sub-Inspector Monjurul Haque of Shahjahanpur Police Station said the body was recovered after police broke open the door of a second-floor apartment following information provided by tenants of the building.
He said the body was in a decomposed and swollen condition.

“The exact cause of death will be determined after the autopsy report. An investigation is underway,” he said.

Family members said Rafi lived in the house with his wife and son on the second floor.

They added that his father, AKM Fazlul Haque, is paralysed, while his mother is deceased.

Relatives claimed Rafi was unemployed and struggled with drug addiction, and that he had a history of domestic disputes.

They alleged that following a recent incident of alleged assault and vandalism, his wife left for her parental home and had not been in contact with him since.

Police said tenants of the building notified relatives after noticing a foul smell emanating from the apartment. When family members found the door locked from inside, they informed police.

Officers later forced entry into the flat and found Rafi lying dead on a bed. The body had already decomposed, police said. Further legal procedures are underway.
