US President Donald Trump has signaled that Cuba may be the next target of Washington’s foreign policy. He hinted about the possible military action while speaking at a Saudi investment forum in Miami on Saturday.
Trump, while praising recent US operations in Venezuela and Iran, declared, “Cuba’s next,” though he stopped short of outlining specific plans, Al Jazeera reports.
He has often argued that Havana’s government, already struggling with a severe economic crisis, is nearing collapse.
The president suggested options ranging from negotiations to direct military intervention.
“I built this great military… sometimes you have to use it. And Cuba is next, by the way,” he said, before adding, “But pretend I didn’t say that.”
His comments come as Cuba faces worsening fuel shortages following the loss of Venezuelan oil supplies. That disruption followed a US-backed campaign that removed Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, cutting off a critical energy lifeline for Havana.
