BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has pledged to transform Chittagong into the pre-eminent trade hub for South and South-East Asia by developing the port and maritime region into an international trading gateway.

Speaking during election mass contacts in the Chattogram-11 constituency, he said the port city would become the centre of business and commerce not only for Bangladesh but for the wider region.

The campaign began in the morning from the Bandar Nimtala Khalpar area of Ward 36 in Gosaildanga, where he interacted with voters across several localities, including East and West Nimtala, CDA No 9 Bridge, Rohingya Para, Hindu Para, No 3 Fakirhat and West Gosaildanga.

A large number of party activists, young voters, women, senior citizens and residents joined the mass contact programme, where Khosru outlined the BNP’s development vision and governance plans.

He highlighted initiatives announced by BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, including the Family Card and Farmer Card, aimed at improving living standards for ordinary people.

Detailing his vision for the region, Khosru said modern warehouses, container depots, shipping services and international-standard logistics facilities will be developed around Chattogram Port.

He said the areas surrounding the port and Shah Amanat International Airport would be transformed into an integrated logistics zone to facilitate trade and business links with South Asian and regional markets.

“Chattogram will become the country’s main trading post and manufacturing centre,” he said, adding that the city would naturally evolve into Bangladesh’s commercial capital due to its strategic location, seaport and international airport.

Addressing party leaders and activists, Khosru said the upcoming election is not just a contest for a single parliamentary seat but a struggle to protect democracy and restore people’s right to vote.

He urged party members to remain united and disciplined, saying politics now requires direct engagement with people by listening to their problems and offering clear solutions.

He said the BNP believes in politics based on public trust and accountability, adding that the party seeks the responsibility of governing the state to serve people rather than relying on propaganda or false promises.
