A Dhaka court on Tuesday ordered the seizure of income tax records belonging to ABM Shahariar, brother of former Detective Branch (DB) chief and additional police commissioner (Crime and Operations) Mohammad Harun or Rashid.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Bench Assistant Md Riaz Hossain confirmed the court’s decision.
The application was moved by ACC Deputy Director Muhammad Joynal Abedin.
According to the petition, Shahariar, who serves as the managing director of President Resort and Agro Limited, is in possession of illegal assets worth Tk12,96,87,604.
The ACC further alleged that Mohammad Harun or Rashid, while occupying influential positions within the police force, abused his power to assist his brother in criminal activities.
The court granted the seizure request, noting that reviewing all tax returns and related documents is essential for a fair investigation into the case.
The case was originally filed by the ACC on 17 December, 2024.
The legal proceedings involve allegations of illegal asset accumulation against multiple family members, Mohammad Harun or Rashid is accused of acquiring Tk 17.51 crore in illegal wealth, while his wife, Shirin Akter, is accused of possessing Tk10.76 crore. The charges against ABM Shahariar involve illegal assets totaling Tk12.96 crore
