The sudden signs of unrest in the hills are not an isolated incident according to BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, stating that some group or another is involved in these events.
Rizvi made the remark during an exchange of views with journalists at BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan on Tuesday afternoon. Also present at this time were BNP Organising Secretary Selim Bhuiyan, Executive Committee member Abdus Sattar Patwari, among others.
He said the emergence of signs of unrest in the hills is giving rise to anxiety and apprehension. Furthermore, signs of unrest are also clearly visible in the RMG sector at the same time. He said, if there is any anti-nation conspiracy, we must all stand shoulder to shoulder against.
Rizvi said, “A statement by a Jamaat leader is making people think: Why is there talk of a neighbouring country attacking us, the possibility of war? Is this fabricated? Yes, while we do have many unresolved issues concerning water, trade, etc, these matters can be resolved through discussion and diplomatic efforts. So, why is the fear of an attack being spread? Such statements are dangerous for the country and go against the country’s independence and sovereignty.”
He added, “We witnessed the fall of one fascism. But today, a big question has arisen in people’s minds: Whether another fascism is trying to rear its ugly head again. Some activities are fueling that apprehension. And people are wondering whether Jamaat’s talk of declaring war with India is part of a major game plan.”
Speaking about Saptami, a key day in the Durga Puja celebrations, Rizvi said this festival is being celebrated with great joy, enthusiasm, and excitement. “We want the festival to be completed peacefully without any security disruptions. For this, we are all alert. BNP leaders and activists are monitoring and performing security guard duties at nearly 35,000 puja pavilions. The party’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, is daily urging leaders and activists to maintain harmony and repeatedly giving instructions regarding the smooth observance of the puja.”
