The Bangladesh Coast Guard has detained 18 fishermen and confiscated an artisanal trawling boat and fishing nets from the outer anchorage area of the Chattogram sea, officials confirmed Tuesday.
The operation was launched following actionable intelligence, according to a statement from the service. A team from Coast Guard Station Sangu conducted the raid at 3am on Tuesday, 18 November 2025.
Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq, confirming the details on Tuesday evening, said the vessel was seized while engaged in illegal fishing activities. A subsequent search of the boat led to the detention of the 18 crew members and the recovery of four trawling nets, valued at approximately Tk15 lakh.
All seized assets and the detained individuals are now undergoing processing for formal legal action, the coast guard said.
The force reiterated its commitment to safeguarding marine resources, with Haq stating that such enforcement operations will continue in the future to protect the country’s fisheries from illicit exploitation.
