Danilo Türk, President of the Club de Madrid and former President of Slovenia, met Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus at his hotel in New York on Wednesday.
At the meeting, Türk invited Yunus to become part of the forum, praising his groundbreaking contributions to microcredit and its worldwide influence, reports BSS.
“We would be honoured to have you participate in our events. We would also greatly appreciate your insights into the democratic transformation currently underway in Bangladesh,” Türk said.
Reflecting on the July Uprising in Bangladesh, he observed that the events had surprised the global community, stressing that it was vital for international leaders to gain a deeper understanding of such changes.
He also voiced his support for the interim administration under Yunus and its efforts to build inclusive democratic practices.
The chief adviser accepted the proposal positively, affirming his readiness to share the lessons of Bangladesh’s democratic transition.
“We are still walking through the jungle, figuring out how to lead the country toward a democratic transformation,” Yunus said. “Our focus remains firmly on this path.”
Club de Madrid brings together the world’s largest network of democratic former Presidents and Prime Ministers, using their collective leadership to strengthen democratic governance and improve global well-being.
CA’s SDG Coordinator Lamiya Morshed also attended the discussion.
