Jihad, a young inventor from Darshana in Chuadanga, has brightened the country’s image on the international stage. Bangladesh’s “Hexaguard Rover” recently won a gold medal as a recognition of excellence at the World Innovation Competition and Exhibition (WICE) 2025, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The inventor of this robot is Zahid Hasan Jihad, a 12th grade student of Darshana Government College and the founder of the Chuadanga Science and Robotics Club.
Approximately two hundred teams from around the world and participated in this four-day global event. Jihad’s rover particularly caught the special attention of the judges in the IT and Robotics category of the competition. After intense competition, Bangladesh clinched the gold medal, which the local administration considers a massive achievement for the district and the country.
Jihad’s “Hexaguard Rover” offers a versatile solution. The robot has been primarily designed with emergency situations, disaster management, and military security in mind.
Jihad said, “This rover will play a crucial role in rescue operations during fires and in military security. It has the capacity to withstand heat up to 1,300 degrees Celsius and has a stainless steel body. Equipped with a smoke-penetrating camera and gas sensor, it will be able to control fire in the initial stages where fire service members cannot reach.”
It also has the ability to detect and deactivate dangerous explosives through a 6-DOF mechanical arm, metal detection, and signal jamming system. It can also provide uninterrupted surveillance of borders and important installations using night vision cameras, sensors, and a live tracking system.
Additionally, this robot will perform humanitarian tasks such as detecting toxic gases in industrial factories, controlling wildlife, and delivering food and medicine to war or disaster zones while reassuring people through voice communication.
Zahid Hasan Jihad worked tirelessly for almost a year at his own club, the Chuadanga Science and Robotics Club, to build this rover. He was assisted by Toha Bin Asad Deep, a student of Jashore University of Science and Technology.
Club President Shariful Alam Milton said, “We won the gold medal in our very first participation in this world competition. This is the result of Jihad’s presentation and the robot’s modern technology.”
Jihad’s international success did not come overnight. Previously, he secured first place at the district and divisional levels in the 46th National Science and Technology Fair, won a Silver Medal in the WICE Bangladesh round, and received the prestigious Dreams of Bangladesh Special Award. His invented “Train Security System” created a significant stir at the national level last year.
Family members said that Jihad has been curious about robotics since childhood. He has materialised his dream by overcoming many obstacles.
Damurhuda Upazila Officer Tithi Mitra said Jihad is one of Bangladesh’s “gems”. “His innovative project has garnered praise internationally, beyond the country’s borders. Jihad is undoubtedly a huge inspiration for the new generation to advance in science and technology.”
Chuadanga District Administrator Mohammad Zahirul Islam said, “Jihad’s achievement has glorified Bangladesh’s name on foreign soil. We wish him complete success and well-being.”
