Chris Pine is set to make his return to Netflix after an eight-year gap. The actor, widely known for his role as Captain Kirk in the recent ‘Star Trek’ film trilogy, last collaborated with the streaming service on ‘Outlaw King’ in 2018. Since then, Pine has starred in ‘Wonder Woman’ 1984 (2020), ‘The Contractor’ (2022), ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ (2022) and ‘Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ (2023).
Deadline reports that Pine will reunite with Netflix for a new survival thriller titled ‘Yeti’. The story follows a father, played by Pine and his daughter, portrayed by Iona Bell, as they battle a deadly creature unleashed by an avalanche in the Alps.
Sofia Boutella, who appeared in Zack Snyder’s ‘Rebel Moon’ and previously worked with Pine on ‘Star Trek Beyond’ (2016), will co-star alongside Ray Winstone.
The premise of Yeti is set deep in the Alps, where an avalanche releases a primeval predator from the glacial ice. With no hope of rescue, Pine’s character and his daughter must fight to survive against the merciless creature that blends with the snow.
The film will be directed by Michael Chaves, known for ‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’ (2025), from an original spec script by Peter Gaffney, later rewritten by Sean Tretta. Pine will executive produce the project alongside Hans Ritter and Dan Kagan, with Picturestart’s Erik Feig and Jessica Switch also producing.
Yeti is part of the ongoing collaboration between Sony and Netflix. The partnership, first established in 2021 and renewed in January, gives Netflix first-look access to Sony’s films intended for direct-to-streaming release.
Pine’s announcement comes following the Sundance premiere of ‘Carousel’, a romantic comedy directed by Rachel Lambert in which he stars opposite Jenny Slate.
The film has received generally positive reviews and currently holds a 68 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Pine is also set to appear in the sci-fi comedy ‘Alpha Gang’, which is currently in post-production.
Iona Bell, who plays Pine’s daughter in Yeti, recently starred in ‘Fing!’ at Sundance and will appear in ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’, due for release this November.
Ray Winstone is known for ‘The Departed’ (2006), ‘Black Widow’ (2021) and Netflix hit ‘Damsel’ (2024).
No official release date or filming schedule has been announced for Yeti, but with Pine’s involvement, the survival monster thriller is already generating anticipation among fans of Netflix originals and action-adventure cinema.
