The Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), the country’s century-old leading trade body, has donated Tk 1 crore to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund to support people affected by the recent floods.
The donation cheque was handed over by CCCI President Mohammad Amirul Haque to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Wednesday evening.
Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury was present during the cheque handover ceremony. Accepting the donation, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman expressed his gratitude to the Chittagong Chamber for extending humanitarian assistance at a critical time.
He praised the business community for standing beside the people during the national crisis, saying such initiatives reflect a strong sense of social responsibility.
According to sources at the Prime Minister’s Office, the Prime Minister also outlined the government’s ongoing efforts to address the flood situation.
He said the government had been working from the outset to reduce the suffering of flood-affected communities and noted that support from the private sector and social organisations would further strengthen the country’s disaster response.
Speaking at the event, CCCI President Mohammad Amirul Haque reaffirmed the Chamber’s commitment to assisting flood victims and supporting national humanitarian efforts. “The Chittagong Chamber has always stood by the government and the people during times of crisis and will continue to do so,” he said.
