A child hawker named Yasin, who sells flowers and chocolates near the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) of Dhaka University, lost part of his finger after being violently assaulted on Tuesday evening following a false accusation.
Witnesses said the boy was blamed by occupants of a passing private car for allegedly throwing a stone at its window. Later, one of the car’s passengers attacked him and stabbed one of his fingers before fleeing the scene, leaving the injured child bleeding near TSC.
“He is not expected to hold a pen properly in his life,” said a university student who rushed to help him. “It’s heartbreaking to see such cruelty done to a child.”
Momitur Rahman Pial, a student of the Criminology Department at Dhaka University, said Yasin was found crying in pain near TSC with his finger severely injured.
A group of students immediately took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors said the damaged portion of his finger had to be surgically removed.
Yasin is widely known among visitors at TSC for selling flowers. One Dhaka University student has taken responsibility for covering his treatment costs.
After receiving first aid and undergoing the surgical procedure, Yasin was brought back to TSC and handed over to his mother later in the evening, confirmed Pial in a social media post.
