A five-year-old boy was killed after being hit by a truck while on his way to school in Jashore on Wednesday morning.
The deceased, Yashir Arafat Shish, was son of Md Shahabuddin from the Nawapara area. He was a student at Jashore Central Prison Primary School.
The accident occurred around 7:30am near Bablatala, said Kotwali Model Police Station Inspector Kazi Babul.
Yashir was riding on the back of a bicycle while his elder brother was pedalling. A cement-laden truck struck the bicycle from behind, killing Yashir on the spot, the inspector said.
The truck driver fled immediately after the incident.
Police later sent the body to the Jashore 250-bed General Hospital morgue and seized the truck.
