Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
The condolence message was conveyed in a released by the Supreme Court’s Public Relations Office and signed by its spokesperson, Md Shafiqul Islam.
In the message, the Chief Justice, along with judges of both the Appellate and High Court divisions of the Supreme Court, conveyed profound grief and extended heartfelt condolences to Khaleda Zia’s bereaved family.
They also prayed for the salvation of her departed soul and for her eternal peace.
Khaleda Zia passed away at 6am on Tuesday. Her death has drawn condolences from individuals, institutions, and national and international leaders.
Following the Chief Adviser’s announcement of a general holiday earlier in the day, the Supreme Court administration later declared Wednesday a general holiday for the court, with the approval of the Chief Justice.
Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury was appointed a judge of the High Court Division during Khaleda Zia’s second term as Prime Minister and was later elevated to the Appellate Division following the mass uprising in 2024.
