A growing number of familiar faces from Bangladesh’s entertainment scene are stepping into the political arena, as several artists pursue nominations for reserved women’s seats ahead of the next national election.
Musicians Baby Naznin, Kanak Chapa, Dilruba Khan and Rizia Parveen, alongside actors Dithi Anwar and Rina Khan, are among those who have submitted their interest through the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), reflecting an increasing overlap between cultural influence and political ambition.
Actor Rukaiya Jahan Chamak has also entered the race, seeking a BNP nomination from Kushtia. She recently confirmed her association with the party and expressed optimism after attending an interview conducted by its nomination board, which has already begun assessing potential candidates.
Speaking to reporters, Chamak said she hopes to focus on issues affecting women and sees her political involvement as a means to turn those plans into action. She added that she remains confident about the process and is prepared to respect the party’s final decision.
Originally from Barishal and raised in Dhaka, Chamak first gained attention as the second runner-up in the Miss World Bangladesh 2017 pageant.
She began her acting career in 2020 and has since featured in a range of television productions, including ‘Girls Squad’, ‘Uran’, ‘Nogod Baki’, ‘Punorjonmo 3’, ‘Punorjonmo Antim Porbo’, ‘Criminals’ and ‘Jiboner Chuktinama’.
