Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin’s address to the nation regarding the announcement of the schedule for the 13th national election and referendum will be recorded at 4pm on Wednesday.
Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed briefed reporters after a meeting between the commission members and the president. He said the CEC and four commissioners had returned to the Nirbachan Bhaban after holding the meeting.
The president praised the commission’s progress and assured that he will provide maximum support to ensure a fair and proper election, said the secretary.
He said, “The CEC will likely sit with the commissioners to discuss overall matters and decide when to announce the schedule. Once I know the decision, I will inform you again.”
“We updated the President on election preparations and various important issues. He was also informed about the progress in updating the voter list, registering political parties, holding both the national election and referendum on the same day, the design and colour of ballot papers, and how they will reach voters,” he added.
“He (the President) was also told about extending voting hours by one hour. He listened attentively and expressed satisfaction,” he further said.
“The President was particularly pleased to learn that postal voting, both at home and abroad, is being managed by the country’s own technical experts,” he added.
