Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) has cleared around 150 illegally installed floating shops along roads and footpaths from Andarkilla Mor to Dewanbazar, including sub-areas along Sirajuddoula Road.
The operation was led by CCC Executive Magistrate Chaity Sarbavidya on Sunday afternoon. During the drive, footpaths and roads were freed to ensure smooth movement for pedestrians and vehicles.
CCC officials said the shops had been occupying public spaces unlawfully, disrupting traffic and pedestrian movement. All the illegal structures were removed during the operation.
Four individuals were sued for leaving goods and construction materials on footpaths and roads, obstructing public access. A total fine of Tk18,000 was imposed on them.
The city corporation stated that similar operations will continue in the future to maintain roads and footpaths free from encroachment.
