Bangladesh Cricket Board has confirmed a new incentive scheme for the Australia series, with the best-performing Bangladesh player set to receive a car through a sponsorship deal signed in Mirpur on Tuesday.
The board signed an agreement with automotive brand Cherry, extending its reward programme after recent series saw motorcycle prizes introduced to boost player motivation.
BCB president Tamim Iqbal said the new deal continues a shift in player incentives linked to on-field performances. “There is an Australia series coming up. The best valuable Bangladesh player will get a car from Cherry,” Tamim said.
He linked the move to a wider effort to rebuild commercial interest around Bangladesh cricket. “Cherry has joined Bangladesh cricket. In the last one and a half to two years, the board’s reputation had taken damage. Coming out of that, brands like Cherry have come in. In the last series and this one, bike companies have joined. That is a positive step for the board,” he said.
Tamim also referenced earlier reward schemes, including motorcycles given in previous home series.
He said sponsorship engagement reflects the board’s position rather than individuals.
“They are involved with the Bangladesh Cricket Board. I have been given responsibility in the board. That responsibility includes meeting sponsors. When I do that, they respect it. This is for the board, not individuals. The board comes first,” he said.
The new incentive will apply across the upcoming Australia ODI and T20 series, with performance-based selection determining the recipient.
