Bangladesh head coach Javier Cabrera remains optimistic ahead of the national team’s upcoming friendly matches, with his focus firmly fixed on the crucial encounter against India. The return of midfielder Hamza Choudhury and the expected arrival of Shamit Shome have boosted team morale as preparations continue in Dhaka.
“The plan is going well. We have had several meetings with the whole team today, even before coming here. We are already not thinking only about the day after tomorrow’s match, especially focusing on the match against India,” Cabrera told reporters after Tuesday’s training session.
Hamza, who missed one training session due to flight delays, has already rejoined the camp. Shamit, meanwhile, is expected to link up with the squad soon. “Shamit will be joining tomorrow, but tonight, let’s see how he feels when he arrives. First of all, we are looking after them, making sure that they will be at their best for the match against India, but hopefully both of them will have the chance to play against Nepal,” Cabrera said.
Asked about his possible lineup for the friendlies, Cabrera hinted at squad rotation. “We are preparing for India, so we will give as much time as possible and use all the 17 players: the eleven players plus six subs. But yeah, we want to focus on preparing very well and winning against India.”
Bangladesh recently showed promise during their tour of Hong Kong, China, where they produced strong performances despite not securing a win. Cabrera believes home advantage could help turn those displays into results. “We must. That’s the objective. The mindset of the team is that. The performance has been good, but we haven’t achieved the three points that we really want to get. The best opportunity and the best scenario would be India at home,” he added.
With the friendlies serving as a dress rehearsal, Cabrera’s men will aim to build rhythm, sharpen tactics, and head into the India match with confidence and momentum.
