Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has spoken to the editors of the two newspapers over the phone regarding the barbaric attacks on the offices of Daily Prothom Alo and The Daily Star.
CA called them on Friday after the incidents of arson and attacks on Thursday night.
According to the press wing, Yunus expressed deep sympathy to Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman and The Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam.
He told the two editors, “I am deeply pained by this unwanted and heinous attack on your institutions and journalists. The government stands by you in this difficult time.”
Yunus said the attack on the country’s two leading media organisations amounted to an attack on the free press.
“This incident has created a major obstacle to the country’s democratic progress and the path of free journalism,” he said.
During the phone conversation, CA assured full security for the editors and the media organisations, along with other necessary support.
He also said that he will meet with these editors very soon.
