Unidentified miscreants set fire to a bus near the entrance of the Mawa Expressway in Dhaka’s Dholaipar area on Wednesday evening. Fire service personnel responded promptly and brought the blaze under control.
Rozina Islam, duty officer at the Fire Service and Civil Defence control room, said two fire units were dispatched after receiving the report at around 6:38 pm.
A video circulating online showed the bus engulfed in flames on the expressway lane in front of Yanjin Restaurant, with witnesses claiming that the vehicle had been deliberately set ablaze.
Authorities said the cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.

The Dholaipar incident was the fourth vehicle fire reported in the capital on Wednesday. Earlier, a Shatabdi Paribahan bus was torched near Sony Cinema Hall in Mirpur, a police pickup van caught fire in front of Ramna Police Station in Kakrail, and a microbus was burned in Uttara.
Police and fire officials later attributed the Kakrail and Uttara incidents to mechanical failures. No casualties have been reported in any of the cases.
In recent days, a series of crude bomb explosions and arson attacks on passenger buses across Dhaka have heightened public fear and raised concerns over deteriorating security in the capital.
