Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) observed the Independence and National Day 2026 with due solemnity and a festive atmosphere, organising a special discussion meeting and doa mahfil at its International Conference Centre.
Eminent researcher, poet, litterateur, and Daily Jugantor Editor Abdul Hye Sikder attended the programme as chief guest and keynote speaker.
Addressing the students, Sikder highlighted the spirit of the Great Liberation War and underscored the significance of independence for the new generation.
“Nurturing the new generation through free thinking and creativity is the best way to keep the spirit of the Liberation War alive,” he said.
BUBT Trust member AFM Sarwar Kamal was present as special guest, while university Vice-Chancellor Professor ABM Shawkat Ali presided over the discussion session.
In his concluding remarks, the vice-chancellor said, “Our goal is not only to produce skilled graduates but also to develop patriotic citizens. On this Independence Day, let our pledge be to contribute our best from our respective positions to build a modern and Smart Bangladesh.”
The programme began with the rendition of the national anthem, supervised by Professor Dr Syed Masud Husain, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences and convener of the celebration committee.
University Registrar Dr Md. Harun-or-Rashid delivered the welcome address. A special honorary crest was presented to the chief guest on behalf of the university.
The event concluded with a doa and munajat, seeking eternal peace for the souls of the martyrs of the Great Liberation War and praying for the nation’s prosperity.
Deans of various faculties, heads of departments, faculty members, students, and university officials were present at the programme.
