BTRC has announced three new measures to simplify mobile phone imports, fast-track vendor enlistment and prevent the entry of cloned, copied and used handsets, according to a press statement issued on Tuesday.
The regulator said vendor enlistment certificates will now be issued more quickly based on minimal documentation, allowing handset businesses to complete the process with fewer administrative steps.
The statement added that BTRC will approve imports upon submission of authentication from either the device manufacturer or an authorised supplier to stop cloned, copied, used or refurbished phones from entering the country. Importers will no longer be required to submit commercial agreements signed with the original manufacturer.
BTRC said all unsold mobile handsets in the local market will be regularised once sellers submit information in the prescribed format, with 15 December 2025 set as the deadline for submission.
The regulator also asked Mobile Business Community Bangladesh to submit clear written proposals on further simplifying the import process while ensuring that illegal devices cannot enter the market.
According to the press statement, BTRC will fully cooperate with all institutions that import mobile phones legally under the Guidelines for the Use, Marketing and Listing of Wireless Equipment 2024.
