Indian Border Security Force (BSF) allegedly tried to push 10–12 people into Bangladesh through the Amjhol border in Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat. The attempt was foiled by the joint vigilance of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local residents.
The incident occurred around 8:30pm on Friday near sub‑pillar no. 8 adjacent to main pillar no. 906 of the Amjhol border.
According to Lalmonirhat 15 BGB Battalion’s media cell and local sources, a vehicle carrying 10–12 individuals stopped across the border that night.
Members of BSF’s 78 Battalion from the Paglamari camp allegedly tried to force the group through the barbed‑wire gate into Bangladeshi territory.
Local residents, noticing unusual BSF activity, quickly raised the alarm. They announced the situation over mosque loudspeakers, mobilised villagers, and informed BGB. Faced with combined resistance from locals and BGB personnel, BSF members were forced to retreat from their plan.
Witnesses said several hundred villagers gathered at the border after the announcement. Under pressure, BSF eventually pulled the group back from the zero line into Indian territory.
Border residents said that increased surveillance in recent times has enabled swift resistance against any push‑in attempts.
Shafiqul Islam, a resident of Amjhol, said, “We first noticed the attempt. Immediately we alerted villagers and informed BGB. Hundreds of villagers gathered at the border. Because of our vigilance and BGB’s presence, they could not succeed. Many villagers kept watch throughout the night.”
Confirming the incident, Lalmonirhat 15 BGB Battalion Commander Lt Col Mehedi Imam said BGB remains on maximum alert to prevent any push‑in, illegal intrusion, or violation of border laws.
“BGB is closely monitoring the situation and taking all necessary measures to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and border security,” he added.
