BRAC Bank has crossed $2 billion in remittance inflows in 2025, marking a major breakthrough in its five-year climb toward remittance leadership.
BRAC Bank said in a press statement on Wednesday that it has risen from 17th to 4th position in the remittance market over the past five years.
It said year-on-year inflows grew from $427 million in 2020 to $1,605 million in 2024, reflecting sustained operational consistency and rising customer trust.
The statement said its strategy is built on digital transformation, customer-centred solutions and a stronger formal remittance ecosystem that supports national economic stability.
Remittances remain a central pillar of Bangladesh’s external balance and household income, and the bank said it has responded by building a modern remittance infrastructure centred on speed, transparency and accessibility for Non-Resident Bangladeshis and their families.
Instant electronic know-your-customer onboarding has accelerated this shift by enabling account opening within minutes and encouraging a move from informal networks to regulated channels.
Digital adoption has been reinforced through the Probashi Virtual Savings Account, which integrates with the Astha platform for deposits, fund transfers, bill payments, mobile recharges, fixed deposits, Deposit Pension Schemes and secured loans from a single interface.
Two dedicated savings products—the Probashi Poribar Savings Account and the TARA Probashi Poribar Savings Account—have been introduced to offer structured financial protection for families dependent on overseas income.
Probashi Poribar customers receive 3% annual interest and life insurance coverage up to Tk 5 lakh, while TARA Probashi Poribar accountholders receive 3.5% annual interest, life insurance coverage up to Tk 2 lakh and annual health insurance benefits up to Tk 50,000.
The statement said the bank expanded its global remittance network in 2025 by adding 10 exchange houses across Australia, Malaysia, Japan, Singapore, Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom, taking its international partners to more than 80.
Remittance beneficiaries now access services across 305 branches and sub-branches and 1,117 agent banking outlets nationwide.
“We remain committed to providing secure, transparent and convenient channels that preserve the value of expatriates’ earnings and support financial security at home,” said BRAC Bank Managing Director and CEO Tareq Refat Ullah Khan.
He said rising inflows have reinforced the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
Deputy Managing Director and Head of Wholesale Banking Md Shaheen Iqbal said sustained investment in innovation, simplified onboarding and migrant-focused solutions has driven the bank’s ascent, adding that the trajectory signals its emergence as a nationally significant remittance institution.
BRAC Bank said in the statement that the $2 billion milestone strengthens its push to build a more inclusive and resilient remittance ecosystem for Bangladeshi migrants.
The bank began operations in 2001 with a focus on small and medium enterprises and now serves more than two million customers through 305 branches and sub-branches, 330 ATMs, 446 SME unit offices, 1,117 agent banking outlets and a workforce of more than 10,000 people.
It remained the country’s largest collateral-free SME financier and a benchmark for governance, transparency and compliance.
