Bangladesh Open University (BOU) has stepped up preparations to ensure fair, smooth and copy-free conduct of the BA and BSS Examinations-2026, with university authorities stressing stricter monitoring, faster result publication and greater use of technology.
A virtual coordination meeting organised by the university’s Examination Department was held at 10am on Tuesday (18 August), chaired by Acting Controller of Examinations Mohammad Habibullah Mahmud. BOU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Siddikur Rahman Khan joined the meeting as the chief guest, the university said in a press release.
The Vice-Chancellor said conducting examinations in a fair, transparent and responsible manner was essential to changing the existing negative perception about examinations at BOU.
He stressed the need for coordinated efforts by the Examination Department, regional and sub-regional centres, examination committees, teachers, officials and other stakeholders to ensure proper management of the examinations.
Khan said students should be treated with empathy within the framework of university rules and regulations. He added that initiatives were underway to bring examination activities under automation and ensure maximum use of ICT.
He also directed special teams and assigned officials to perform their duties properly and called for strict monitoring of responsibilities at examination centres. He instructed officials concerned to resolve pending admission and approval-related matters of students quickly.
The Vice-Chancellor also emphasised rapid evaluation of answer scripts and publication of results within the shortest possible time. He said monitoring would be strengthened from the start of the examinations and urged positive media coverage and promotion through the university’s verified Facebook page to create awareness among students.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr Anisur Rahman, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr Mohammad Sirajul Islam and Treasurer Professor Dr Sheikh Rafiqul Islam joined the meeting virtually as special guests and provided guidance.
Acting Controller of Examinations Mohammad Habibullah Mahmud said BOU was moving beyond its long-standing complexities. He said examination activities had been advanced by more than one to one-and-a-half months compared with the previous schedule, while the time required for publishing results had also been reduced.
He warned that old answer scripts would not be allowed under any circumstances and that candidates would not be permitted to sit for examinations in more than 10 courses.
Mahmud urged heads of regional and sub-regional centres and officials responsible for examination centres to conduct the examinations with caution and sought cooperation from all concerned to complete the process smoothly.
The meeting was attended by Dean of the School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Languages (SSHLL) Professor Tanvir Ahsan, Director of the School of Social Sciences (SSS) Professor Dr Mohammad Abu Taleb, Chairman of the BA/BSS Examinations-2026 First and Second Semester (Part-1) Examination Committee Dr Mohammad Zakir Hossain Talukder, and directors of various regional centres.
BOU’s ICT Adviser, members of examination-related committees, Joint Director of the Information and Public Relations Department, officials from the Examination Department and heads of various sub-regional centres also participated in the meeting.
A total of 247,013 candidates will take part in the upcoming examinations at 288 centres across the country.
